G2 Celebrates Ten Years at Unit 1 Keys Business Village

The team have been in unit 1 for ten years – here’s our story

Last week marked ten years since G2 Electrical Wholesale moved into Unit 1 at Keys Business Village in Cannock. The move from Unit 8, and the remodelling that followed, shaped the branch customers use today. Here is the story behind it.

FROM UNIT 8 TO UNIT 1

When Paul opened G2 in 2009, the business started life in Unit 8, just down the road. Seven years later the branch had outgrown it. More customers, more stock, and more deliveries going out the door than the building could sensibly handle. In 2016, G2 moved into Unit 1, a much bigger branch, and set about making the space work properly.

THE WAREHOUSE CAME FIRST

The mezzanine floor and several upstairs offices were remodelled to gain more storage in the warehouse. It is the part of the move customers benefit from most, even though they rarely see it. More storage means more lines held at the branch, and more lines at the branch means the product you need is more likely to be on the shelf when you walk in.

THE SHOWROOM AND CONFERENCE ROOM

The showroom was designed with working audio-visual and lighting demonstrations, so customers can see products behaving as they would on an installation before specifying them. The conference room was added for customer use, and manufacturers now use it for training sessions and CPD events. Lynn and Paul also gained a separate office, which the rest of the team have had ten years to decide how they feel about.

WHAT TEN YEARS AT UNIT 1 MEANS

A branch only gets bigger for one reason: customers keep coming back. Every part of the 2016 move was built around making G2 more useful to the electricians, sole traders, and contractors who use it. Ten years on, that is still the measure the team works to.
