Hampton by Hilton, Broad Street Birmingham – LED Efficiency
The Job
To improve the lighting efficiency and luminescence within 285 bedrooms, corridors, reception and public dining and bar areas of a city centre hotel.
The Approach
The project was carried out over a two-month period in order to eliminate any loss of revenue from rooms being unavailable to book. A total of 3027 lamps were changed throughout hotel including GU10, 2d, CFLs, and incandescent lights by introducing LED energy efficient technology to provide a better light output and far less energy consumption.
The Outcome
In less than seven months the savings in electricity and maintenance costs have paid for LED lamps and installation with the average annual return on investment at 40%.
The new fittings provide an improved ambient atmosphere for guests whilst saving on cost, energy and maintenance for the hotel.
LEDs do not require maintenance like a standard lamp therefore a reduction in maintenance costs has saved approx. £7500 per year.
The Benefits
Projected savings in electricity and maintenance costs over a 5-year period, after removing product and labour costs: £270,000
- Saved 336,533 Kwh p/a
- Electricity savings approx.: £47,000 per annum
- Carbon emissions reduced by: 176,545 kgCo2e p/a
